Advent, Christmas & Epiphany
Sunday, Nov. 30 – Tuesday, Jan. 6
This Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany, we invite the community to worship, study, and gather together with our family of faith at St. Mary’s.
Worship
Advent Labyrinth Walking
Advent Labyrinth Walking will be open in our Community Life Center, corner of Farriss Avenue and Hillcrest Drive, from 6 to 8 pm Wednesdays, Dec. 3, 10, and 17. This ancient spiritual practice helps improve focus and reduce stress by integrating body and spirit. It’s a perfect break from the busy holiday season.
Greening of the Church
We’ll green the church in preparation for the Christmas season on Sunday, Dec. 21. After 9 am worship in the Community Life Center we’ll decorate the tree and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies. After the 11 am service in the Nave, we’ll decorate the trees and enjoy a light lunch together.
On Christmas Eve
We invite the entire community to our two Christmas Eve services:
- Christmas Pageant: A Night in Bethlehem at 3 pm in the Community Life Center. It’s not too late to join the cast as an angel, donkey, sheep, or camel. Arrive at 2 pm to get your costume.
- Christmas Eve Festival Eucharist: At 11 pm in the Nave, with a chamber orchestra. Arrive early to hear the prelude which begins at 10:30 pm.
Christmas Lessons & Carols
On Sunday, Jan. 4, we’ll celebrate Christmas with our annual Festival of Lessons & Carols. The service begins at 11 am in the Nave.
Study
Advent Adult Forum
Rev. Louis-Patrick Mua leads a discussion of The Creed: What Christians Believe and Why It Matters by Luke Timothy Johnson. The book explores the First Council of Nicaea in 325, 1,700 years ago, which sought to define universal Christian beliefs.
The study meets at 6 pm Wednesdays and at 10:15 am Sundays in the Parish Hall.
Chrismon making
Our family ministry invites children, youth, and their families to learn about different Chrismons at 10 am on Sundays during Advent. The word Chrismon combines “Christ” and “monogram.” We’ll learn to make our own Chrismons! Join us in the Godly Play area, ground floor, 108 W. Farriss Ave.
Gather
Advent Revels Party
We’ll gather in a member’s home for our annual Advent Revels Party on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 6 to 8 pm. Look for the location in the Friday email on Dec. 13. We’re also planning a separate party for the children during Advent Revels.
Blue Jean Epiphany Ball
Our Blue Jean Epiphany Ball will fill the Great Hall of the Community Life Center on Saturday, Jan. 3, beginning at 6 pm. We’ll have comfort food, live music, and dancing. This is a fundraiser for our Journey to Adulthood Pilgrimage in the summer of 2026. Buy tickets.
